Goddard in Roswell: Preserving a Rocketry Legacy

Robert H. Goddard’s work in Roswell helped shape the future of modern rocketry. After his death in 1945, his widow, Esther Goddard, played a central role in preserving that legacy by helping establish the Goddard Collection at the Roswell Museum and contributing to a permanent exhibition recognized by Congress.
In October 2024, a devastating flood impacted the museum, the surrounding community, and more than 1,300 Goddard artifacts and archival materials. Presented by Caroline Brooks, director of the Roswell Museum, this talk will share the history and significance of the Goddard Collection, the museum’s ongoing conservation and recovery work, and how this moment has opened the door to a new exhibition that can tell Goddard’s story for a current and future generations.
