The catalog was authored by our guest curators, Joseph F. Cullon, WPI, Robert Tobin, Clark University and Stephanie E. Yuhl of the College of the Holy Cross. The 116-page, full-color volume documents the Worcester County LGBTQ+ story understanding that it will continue to grow through the ongoing collecting and programming by WHM.

The recent LGBTQ+ exhibit brought together the scattered documentation of Worcester County’s LGBTQ+ experience in a partnership with College of the Holy Cross, Clark University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Digital Worcester. Additional sponsorship was received from Mass Humanities, state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, along with the Albert W. Rice Charitable Foundation, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ+ Youth, UniBank, Berkshire Bank, the Mass Cultural Council, and College of the Holy Cross’s Scholarship-in-Action community-based research grant, sponsored by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Both the exhibit and the catalog, LGBTQ+ Worcester FOR THE RECORD, are the work of community and a celebration of Worcester itself. “One of the main ways gay people become isolated, “commented Josephine Ross, GLCCCM co-chair in 1993 as the initial LGBTQ+ archive was being established, “is when our history is taken away from us.” Worcester Historical Museum affirms its responsibility to hold and share the stories that make Worcester the exciting, fascinating and meaningful place of today and tomorrow…Our Worcester. Your History Matters.
