Later, 1918, and far away at the Naval Station in American Samoa during it’s annual Flag Day event there was a Baby Show. The Program for Flag Day that year put the event this way, “Baby Show. First Prize: For best PHYSICAL specimen of full blood Samoan Baby, under two years of age, $5.00. Second Prize: For any baby under three years of age, wearing the prettiest costume faa-Samoa, $3.00. Did someone who remembered the P.T. Barnum shows stage it? Or were there other Baby Shows that happened between Barnum’s last in 1863 and 1918?

I have some Whitney valentines and they are so beautifully printed that I can hardly bear to look at the cheap and tawdry things that are sold now. I wish that someone would bring the Whitney company and factory back to ilfe!
