Docent Program

Docent Program

Docents are essential to Salisbury Mansion interpretation and operation.  They give guided tours to casual visitors,  students, and groups. Docents assist with programs and events from high teas to concerts to candlelight tours.  In addition to the core information taught in the training course, docents are encouraged to research elements of the house and family they find fascinating and tailor tours based on their research.

No special background is needed to be a docent.  Interested applicants should be enthusiastic about history, willing to learn, at ease with public speaking, and comfortable with groups of all ages and learning styles.  Docents are required to complete a museum training course, make a two-year commitment to volunteer on average 10 hours per month during open hours and for specially scheduled tours and programs.
