LGBTQ+ WORCESTER
LGBTQ+ WORCESTER HISTORY PROJECT
History is very important and powerful. In a way, if you’re not remembered, you don’t exist.
-Martha Brockman, Gay & Lesbian Community Coalition of Central Massachusetts, 1993
The Worcester LGBTQ+ History Project is a commitment to collecting, preserving, and sharing Worcester’s queer history—past, present, and future. It is a community project an invitation to all to share, to engage…to understand.
“For the Record” was a “down payment of sorts, in a larger project to build a sustainable physical and digital archive.” The exhibit and catalog were the achievements of strong community partnerships with the leadership of local scholars Joseph Cullon, Worcester Polytechnic Institute; the late Robert Tobin, Clark University; and Stephanie Yuhl, College of the Holy Cross, along with a community advisory board, student contributors, and—of course—the contributions of those who lived these stories, making history then and now.
