American Steel & Wire
The humming factories at the South Works plant of American Steel & Wire, which employed more than 3,000 workers in the post-war period, exemplified Worcester's prosperity. In 1956 the company held an open house to celebrate the 125th anniversary of wiremaking in Worcester and to bask in the glory of its enormous success. The festivities included a day for just the families of employees, and a day for the whole community to visit its wire, steel, and cable making facilities.
